Let's Publicly Finance Campaigns

With the increase in wealthy individuals spending their personal fortunes to further their political careers, California has long been headed in the direction of oligarchy. But California also has an equally strong progressive tradition. The way to reverse direction is a voluntary system of publicly financed election campaigns, proposed by AB 583, the ``Clean Money'' bill. Californians want elected officials who represent their interests, and AB 583 is the way to get them.
