![]() Corruption is Not Inevitable
The pervasive corruption of our political structure is not inevitable. Amazingly, a proven system of public campaign financing will be voted on this week by the California Assembly. A.B. 583 is similar to systems that have worked well in Arizona and Maine. For a yearly cost of about $5.50 per voter, candidates for state office can be freed from dependence on special interests to fund their campaigns. Have no doubt that politicians must pay attention and allegience to the source of their funding. If you are concerned about the excessive influence of money in politics, be sure to call your assembly member and express your strong support of A.B. 538. These chances don't come around very often!
