'Corporate Welfare'

By Bill Walzer, Letter to the Editor

Editor -- Re "Energy firms' tax break bid is adding up," April 20.

The report states that lawmakers increased subsidies to private companies in the federal energy bill from $54 billion to $89 billion in just the last three weeks.

Congratulations to Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., for offering an amendment to eliminate all the subsidies -- "corporate welfare" in the energy bill. But we will not end "corporate welfare" until we end the big money kickbacks to campaign funds. And the only way to do that is for the voters to pay for campaigns. It will be a lot cheaper.
