Campaign Financing

By Lani Formica, Letter to the Editor

I agree with one conclusion of the Sept. 22 editorial, "The Loophole Peddlers." The Federal Election Commission is not enforcing the intent of the McCain-Feingold campaign reform law.

But I disagree with the recommendation of the editors that the FEC should be scrapped to allow Congress to create another, supposedly better, agency to monitor campaign financing. Someone will always find a way around the regulations.

This country needs publicly financed campaigns to get special interests and big money out of our election process.
