Fund-Raising Reform
In "Fund-raising ban won't bring reform" (March 2), Julie Butcher opines that "I don't believe there's public support (or funds) for a 'clean money' effort this year." Au contraire. There is now a bill working its way through the state Senate that is the most exciting clean-money legislation to come down the pike in many a year. We could actually have clean elections if Assemblywoman Lori Hancock's bill, AB 2949, can get out of committee and get voted on this year. This is a great year for campaign-finance reform and there is a lot of support for it, don't kid yourself.
